Dehradun accident: Students partied, raced BMW, decapitated in high-speed crash

A newly surfaced video reveals that a group of college students involved in a fatal car accident in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun earlier this week had been partying and allegedly drinking right before rear-ending a truck. According to police, CCTV footage from the area showed the students driving at excessive speeds.
The crash, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, left six students dead and another critically injured. It is speculated that the students’ Innova was racing a BMW ahead of the collision. The force of the impact was so severe that some of the occupants of the car were reportedly decapitated, and the vehicle was left a mangled wreck.
A video from earlier that evening, obtained by India Today TV, shows a group of young men and women swaying to music, pouring drinks and consuming what appears to be alcoholic beverages from glasses.

The footage has led to mounting questions over whether alcohol played a role in the collision. Police are yet to confirm if the students were intoxicated, as autopsy reports are still pending.
The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday at ONGC Chowk in Dehradun when the students’ car rammed into a truck from behind, reducing the vehicle to a mangled wreck. All six passengers died at the scene, while the seventh, 25-year-old Siddhesh Agrawal, was hospitalised with grievous injuries at Synergy Hospital.
India Today has learnt that in the moments after the accident, Siddhesh’s iPhone sent an emergency SOS to the police control room, which may have helped save his life.
Siddhesh’s distraught father, Vipin Agrawal, said his son hasn’t regained consciousness since he was hospitalised. He urged people not to speculate about their son’s activities leading up to the tragedy and to respect the family’s privacy at this sensitive time.
“This is my appeal to everyone – six families have lost their children, they are overwhelmed with grief. My son is in the ICU. Please have some empathy and do not spread fake news and rumours that can send a wrong impression. Police are investigating the matter and the truth will come to light in due course,” Agrawal told India Today TV.

(From L-R) Guneet Kaur, Navya Goyal, Rishabh Jain and Kamakshi were killed in the collision.

Authorities identified the deceased as Kunal Kukreja, 23; Atul Agrawal, 24; Rishabh Jain, 24; Navya Goel, 23; Kamakshi, 20; and Guneet, 19. Kukreja was from Himachal Pradesh, while the others were Dehradun residents. Police have not yet determined which institution the students attended.
An investigation is on and police are examining CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the cause of the accident. While officials have not confirmed whether the driver was under the influence, the video has intensified speculation.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the loss of young lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
